Held Wednesday night (22nd April) at the prestigious Pinewood Studios, the Sportsman’s dinner raised over £48,000, with all proceeds from the event funding a range of lifesaving equipment for hospitals in the Buckinghamshire area.
Over the past 28 years, Scannappeal has helped locals receive essential treatment and the provision of advanced medical equipment across different NHS departments for Amersham, Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and Community Hospitals means that every 10 minutes a patient in the local area is diagnosed or treated with equipment funded by Scannappeal.
Diners at the event were treated to talks from A Question of Sport’s Matt Dawson and entertainer Bobby Davro, who kept spirits high throughout the evening. A range of other sporting guests, including Lee Dixon, Matt Perry and Kyran Bracken attended the event, delivering signature anecdotes and words of support for the charity. After the dinner, a charity auction of sporting memorabilia raised a phenomenal £24,000.
Scannappeal’s Chairman, William Baxter, said: “Scannappeal has an extraordinary track record for a local charity, having raised over £11 million. The high number of patients that require treatment and the demand for new equipment in the area means that the funds raised at the Sportsman’s dinner will have a direct impact on the local community. Scanners, amongst the other equipment we raise money for, are an indispensible part of identifying and responding to disease, and our funds make sure the local population are treated correctly.
“Over 100,000 patients have been treated in the last year alone. To put that into perspective, since we began in 1987, one in four of the local population in Buckinghamshire have benefitted from the equipment we have supplied. Sponsors such as Annodata are essential to maintaining and improving this level of care, and we look forward to seeing the immediate benefits of their donation”, William concluded.
Andrew Harman, Managing Director of Annodata and a Trustee at Scannappeal, commented: “Having been one of their trustees for 2 years, and seen first hand the impact the charity has made, we are incredibly proud to be able to offer them our continued support. Their supply of life-saving equipment has been immeasurably important and it is a pleasure to support a charity whose results are so obvious and immediate.
‘Hospitals are at the centre of our local community and it is important that we all play our part to help them continue to deliver a high standard of services. We raised an incredible amount last night and I’m very pleased that we were able to lend Scannappeal our support,” he concluded.
